ABOUT

My philosophy towards modeling is simple: try different subjects and have fun doing it.

I started seriously building kits in about 1987. I was in a wonderful position because I worked full-time as a professional club DJ 3 nights a week and had plenty of time to persue a hobby. I had built a couple of kits when I was a kid and had always remembered the fun of it all. My girlfriend at the time had a normal 9-5 job which gave me at least 8hrs a day to concentrate on my hobby which probably made me the luckiest hobbiest in the world.

Though having a love for science fiction all my life, I started in the subject of military modeling simply because there was a huge amount of reference regarding techniques available. I even ended up having an 'idol' whose name was Verlinden. In retrospect it was a great way to get into sci-fi modeling simply because it taught me a huge amount about practical design and weathering. There was a large amount of other peoples work to learn from and admire. I built everything from submarines to aircraft. Along the way I even won the West Australian IPMS 'Most Outstanding Modeler' 3 years running. Here is a sample of the non-scifi kits that I have built over the years. IMAGES

I now solely focus on science fiction with my favorite being to scratchbuild/kitbash. I follow a few simple guidelines:

1. The machine must look like it would actually work, all pipes and cables must lead somewhere.

2. A top and bottom must be easily distinguishable.

3. Used kitbashed parts need to be modified enough as not to be recognizable.

The last 5 years have has seen me do very little modeling. I had become very involved in the computer industry and found myself spending very little time building models (though I still kept on collecting the kits). Over the last 6 months I seem to have rekindled my passion once again. With the Internet at my fingertips and a world of people with the same interests, my enthusiasm has grown as I browse through other peoples 'pages' and admire their works. There is an unlimited amount of inspiration in this cyber-world, from original models through to unique and original 3d art.

All my photography is done by me using the Canon Powershot Pro70 digital camera and two 250watt halogen lights. I love the clarity of this camera and it's ease of use. I can zoom in to as little as 5cm from the subject. I do most of the shots in 'auto mode' but occasionally there comes a time when I go to manual for the close-ups.

It's because of this 'rekindle' that helped me to rediscover sci-fi modeling once again that I decided to put my own site together and share my work with others, and hopefully rekindle some other fading hobbiest.

Happy modeling
