I
built this kit many years ago. There has been quite a few modifications
made to the snowspeeder.
First
thing I did was to throw out the stupid looking pilot. I then cut
a hole in port side and super-detailed the area to show some kind
of battle damage.
Because
I planned to have the canopy open, the clear part canopy was thrown
out and replaced with clear sheet that was a lot thinner than the
original.
The
actual cockpit was detailed with parts from a 1/32nd scale Tomcat.
The seat belts were made from sliced tin foil from a butter container.
The
figure was created using bits from my spares box. The straps are once
again tin foil, and his arm stripe is masking tape.
This
is the one and only time that I have needed to recreate a snow landscape.
The base is made from plaster. First a thin layer of plaster was poured
on to wrapping foil and when dry, was broken into small pieces. Plaster
was poured onto a MDF base and left to set partially dry. The snowspeeder
was then pushed into position as to simulate a craft that has slid
some distance and then buried itself to a stop. While the plaster
was still partially wet I sprinkled the broken-up plaster behind the
snowspeeder.
