STAR WARS: 'FOREST CHASE'

After seeing 'Return Of The Jedi', there were a number of dioramas that I was keen on doing. This is one of those...

The forest chase between the Stormtrooper and Luke Skywalker on the planet Endor, was quite a breath taking sequence involving the most sophisticated special effects available at the time.

It was great to see AMT/ERTL release the speeder bike as a kit. I had a couple of different scenes in mind that I could use the kit for.

I decided on the actual chase through the forest which straight away caused a couple of problems.

1. I would need 2 kits for the scene.

2. I needed a 'Luke', and I can't sculpt to save my life!

Solved the first easily, it just cost me twice as much. The 2nd problem I had to compromise and create a 'representation' rather than a 'replication'.

Because I wanted to keep one of the Stormtroopers for a future project, I cast the arms and torso in latex rubber and then used resin to copy the parts.

Lukes 'poncho' is made from tissue paper soaked in diluted wood glue and the head comes from a R/C figure that just happened to be the right scale. His helmet was sculpted from 'DAS' modeling clay.

The Stormtrooper is straight from the box with the only modification being the repositioning of his head.

The terrain is made using a combination of foam for the rocks that were brushed with plaster, lichen and roots dug up from the back garden. The grass is 'static grass' available from railway hobby center.
