This
kit brought back a lot of memories for me. I used to watch the series
'Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea' when I was a kid. I knew nothing
about story plots, just loved seeing this amazing looking submarine
with it's just as amazing flying sub.
I
thought I would do something special with this kit, so I decided to
do some interior lighting.
After
completing the interior, I rigged up a lighting system using LED's
and a 9 volt battery. 3 LED's were used inside, 1 in the front and
2 at the back. This gave the interior an even glow and crew were clearly
visible. A switch was installed in the back of the sub so I had control
over the LED's.
The
rest of the kit was a straight forward assembly then the sub was painted
with a gloss yellow.
The
base was made from MDF (medium density fibreboard) also known as craftwood.
The MDF was masked off and the centre area painted blue. The whole
area was then coated with a substance known as 'Gel Medium' which
is available from art supply stores. This gel is very thick and can
be shaped to look like very realistic waves. In the jar it's an opaque
colour but dries clear after application.
