NUTTKRAKER

Built in about 1994, I wanted to try something totally different in design and colour. This was the result of about six weeks work.

The original concept was to do a vehicle that was a type of 'pirate' ship of the desert with sails and a crows nest. In the end the idea of a standard would replace the 'sail' with the 'look' still intact. The base was made from thick card cut to look like dry mud and the mutant plant-life was made from clay.

The vehicle is totally scratchbuilt from sheet plastic with all the simulated timber areas built from balsa wood. The netting is made from surgical bandage gauze which was soaked in thinned wood glue then placed in position to dry. When the gauze dries, it becomes rock hard which then can be painted.

The standard was made from tin foil from the top of a butter container then undercoated with automotive primer and detailed with watercolours. The skull is a temporary tattoo bought at a chemist for about 80 cents.

All the figures were purchased from a fantasy gaming store and left stock.

I bought a rotating hole punch that's used on leather to create all the rivets on the model.

The magic mushrooms are made from 'DAS" modeling clay then painted with fluro colours.
