19/9/2001 As I mentioned in other areas of the site, I can't sculpt figures for nuts! Which causes a bit of dilemma for me considering I've always wanted to create some original figures. So since I can't sculpt the other option was to kitbash. I first started by going down to some toy stores and selecting some appropriate figures for the job. IMAGE IMAGE IMAGE. CHYNA from the WWF range I figured would be a good start as she had the best features for what I had in mind. IMAGE The figure was then chopped up readied to be sanded and filled for some modifications before I cast the pieces. IMAGE. Casting the pieces will give me the ability to use the molds for other figure projects. 01/11/2001 I got a fair bit done over the last few weeks. Some alterations to the figures that needed to be done included patching up the joints as well as adding some 'bases' to the parts. IMAGE. These bases were created so as mounting to the casting box was easier and more secure. The casting box was made from balsa wood and the pieces glued together, then as an added precaution, a couple of rubber bands attached. IMAGE The figure parts were glued in place and the inside of the box coated in Vaseline to create a release agent. IMAGE I used a general purpose Polyester Resin for casting with some beige coloring added. The mould was made from Elastosil RTV available from the same place that I bought my resin from. IMAGE. Just a note, make sure all your measurements are in weight and not volume. This a lot easier and more accurate with scales. IMAGE. Now the FUN begins! 2/2/2002 Having cast all the parts, I still wasn't sure what pose I was going to do with these parts until I found a picture of Supergirl a few months ago on the net and absolutely loved the pose. This began the basis of my very first attempt. IMAGE All the joints were cut with a razor saw and super-glued into place except for the knee joints. These joints (yet to be filled) had a hole drilled in both ends of the joints and a small piece of wire glued into place. This method gave me the ability to pose Supergirl so she looked natural and balanced. At the moment the torso is held in place with Blu Tac. The boots had all the laces sanded off and puttied in. IMAGE You can see that there has been quite a bit of filling and sanding. The larger joints were filled with Milliput and then when dry, sanded to shape. IMAGE |
